Peony Appreciation Post

"The peony is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia. They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America".
This is what Wikipedia says about the peony.

In mythology the peony is named after Paeon, a physician to the gods, who received the flower on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo. Another version of the story is that that same physician was saved from dying by being turned into a peony.

The peony is among the longest-used flowers in Eastern culture and is symbolic, as it is a traditional floral symbol of China and is known as "flower of riches and honour" and "king of the flowers", and is used symbolically in Chinese art.

Now at this point I could write any poem about peonies, original and from the heart, but what better poetry to include than something a little more relevant? The haiku. Unfortunately I cannot write haikus, but I've managed to gather some golden ones.

The peonies have fallen,
We parted
Without regret.
- Hokushi

Dusk on the flower
Of the white peony,
That embraces the moon.
- Gyodai

In the stillness,
Between the arrival of guests,
The peonies.
- Buson
When the peonies bloomed,
It seemed as though were
No flowers around them.
- Kiitsu
About to bloom,
And exhale a rainbow,
The peony!
- Buson
